Lotus Roots

Lotus Roots was created to fill a noticeable gap in information about Japanese culture in America.
While Japanese pop culture—like anime, music, and movies—has gained massive popularity, it often leaves out the deeper traditions such as Sado (tea ceremonies), Kendo (sword arts), Kyudo (archery), and Shodo (calligraphy). As interest in these cultural elements grows, so too does the need for a centralized platform that showcases the events, organizations, and activities that bring Japanese culture to life across the country.

Our mission is to provide reliable, up-to-date information on Japanese cultural events and organizations, both traditional and contemporary.
Whether it's a festival, an art exhibition, or a workshop, we aim to be the go-to resource for discovering what’s happening in the Japanese cultural scene, no matter where you are.

Currently, we're in our early stages.
While we’re still building, we’re focusing on one thing: accuracy. We want users to trust the information they find here. That means starting with a narrow scope—highlighting events and festivals—and growing as our network and resources expand.

But we can’t do this alone.
In 2024, there were approximately 170 organizations in the U.S. actively promoting Japanese culture through events. From small local groups to national institutions, we want to collaborate with them to ensure their events reach the right audience. If you're part of an organization or just passionate about Japanese culture, we’d love your input.

Help us grow this community.
Whether you're an event planner, cultural leader, or enthusiastic supporter, you can make a difference. Share your events, give feedback, or just get in touch—we're here to connect, inform, and celebrate Japanese culture together.
